Memorial Families,
Weâre reaching out with honesty and urgency.
Over the past few weeks, weâve seen troubling behavior in our restroomsâespecially in the 7th and 8th-grade boysâ bathrooms. Vandalism has increased. Paper towels are being pulled from dispensers and used inappropriately. In some cases, students are urinating on the floor or in paper towels and leaving them behind.
This behavior is unacceptable. Itâs unsanitary, disrespectful, and undermines the work weâve done to make Memorial a place students are proud to walk into each day. Weâve invested in our building because our students deserve a space that reflects their potential. But space alone doesnât build prideâpeople do.
We need the village right now.
Please speak with your childrenâespecially our young menâabout respect for themselves, for others, and for our shared spaces. This isnât just âgrossâ behavior; itâs harmful. It damages our environment, hurts our community, and erodes the trust weâre building together.
We also received a message from the United Convenience Store asking for our help. Some of our students have been stealing from the store on their way home from school. This is unacceptable and must stop immediately. Moving forward, all students are expected to go directly home after dismissal. Visits to United or the Dollar Store are not permitted.
We also ask you to challenge the idea that speaking up is âsnitching.â Telling the truth and holding each other accountable is how real community works. Community means your problem becomes my problemâbecause I care enough to act.
Finally, please talk with your child about how they handle conflict. Choosing violenceâverbal, emotional, or physicalâdoesnât show strength. It shows hurt. Real power is found in self-control and empathy. That lesson begins with usâat school and at home.
We believe in our students. We believe in this community. And we believe this can be a turning pointâa moment where we come together to guide our children toward better choices and stronger character.
Letâs remind them what true Memorial Pride looks like.
