Spelling Bee Success 🐝

Our Spelling Bee was a night to remember. A big thank you to the Academic Competition Club and Ms. Wright for organizing an event that put our students' genius on full display. We also appreciate the members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. for showing up and showing out in support of our kids.

A special congratulations to our Spelling Bee champion, Fatimah Yusef. She will represent Memorial at the regional round on March 7 at 10:00 AM at WHYY Studios. Let's cheer her on!

Course Requests for Rising 9th Graders

It's time for your child to start selecting courses for the next school year. Course requests are submitted through the Genesis Parent Portal, and we want every family to complete this step regardless of where your child plans to attend high school.

  • Here's how to do it:
    • Log in to your Genesis Parent Portal
    • Click Scheduling, then Requests
    • Select courses your child qualifies for based on their current coursework
  • A few things to know:
    • The scheduling feature opened on February 17
    • Submitting a request does not automatically place your child in a course. A counselor reviews all requests before they are finalized.
    • Courses are organized by subject area, so they're easy to find
  • If you have questions or need help accessing the portal, contact the main office.

School - Family Partnership

Progress reports and conferences tell part of the story. But achievement happens when school and home work together. We are not just after improvement. We are after results, and that requires your support at home.

Here's one resource you can start using today:

Khan Academy (khanacademy.org) is free and covers every subject, from math and reading to science and test prep. Your child can work at their own pace, review what they learned in class, or get ahead. You can create a parent account to track their progress. It works on any device with internet access.

We will continue to share tools and resources that keep learning going beyond the school day. Your partnership makes the difference.
