Service - The Memorial Way

"Everybody can be great because everybody can serve." – Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, members of our Memorial Middle School community came together in the spirit of service for our rescheduled MLK Day of Service. Originally planned for January 20 but postponed due to inclement weather, the day proved to be well worth the wait.

The event was a huge success, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our Memorial Team members who showed up to serve: Ms. Loving, Ms. Sidney, Ms. Varga, Ms. Wright, Mr. Myrie, Ms. Miller, Ms. Seckinger, and Ms. Hall. We were also honored to have families and students from our Memorial community join us, demonstrating the power of collective action and a shared commitment to improving our school.

With the help of our volunteers, we were able to spruce up five wings of our school building, enhancing the climate and culture for our students. The enthusiasm, generosity, and willingness to serve were truly inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful for everyone who answered the call.

Most importantly, we were deeply impacted by the heart of service embodied by our brilliant students, who gave their time and energy to make a tangible difference in their school community. Their dedication to service is a testament to the values we strive to instill at Memorial Middle School.

Thank you again to all who participated—your contributions helped make this day meaningful and memorable!

Turning the Page at Memorial 🚌

This week, the New Jersey Department of Education released its annual performance reports for schools across the state. As you’ll see in the chart below, our current scores reflect significant challenges—but they don’t tell the whole story.

Memorial Middle School earned a Summative Score of 12.56 and a Summative Rating of 3.13, placing us near the bottom when compared with schools serving similar grade levels. These numbers are not where we want to be—but they are also not where we plan to stay.

These scores are based on a range of factors from last year, including test performance, growth, and absenteeism. However, they don’t measure our effort, show the changes we've already begun to make, or capture the dedication of our teachers, the potential of our students, or the plans we’re implementing to move forward.

We are committed to turning this around. That means focusing on instruction, supporting students and families, building consistent attendance, and making Memorial a place where students want to learn and grow.

But we can’t do it alone.

We’re asking you—our families—to join us in this work. Not by sitting on the sidelines or pointing fingers, but by being part of the solution. Talk to us. Partner with us. Hold us accountable, yes—but also stand with us as we do the work.

Our students deserve nothing less.

We thank you for your support and your belief in what’s possible.
