September 29 Community Newsletter

Dear parents and guardians,

Thank you for attending our Back to School Night! Your presence reinforces the vital partnership between our school and community, which is essential for our students' success.

A special shout-out goes to all the parents, guardians, and community members that attended back to school night. We are also grateful for our amazing scholars who served as exceptional tour guides throughout the evening. It is heartening to see students eager to make positive contributions to our school community.

As a reminder, on Monday we will celebrate students with perfect attendance and no discipline referrals by treating them to Mister Softee during lunchtime. We are committed to recognizing and celebrating those who are making the right choices.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to foster an environment that promotes success for all our students!

Please remind your students to arrive at school on time by 7:29 AM. Students arriving late will be marked tardy and may need to attend Saturday school after accumulating six instances of lateness.

I eagerly anticipate cultivating our partnership and promoting the positive developments taking place at Willingboro High School.

I hope you had a great weekend.

In partnership,

Principal Taylor

Safety and Security

As you are aware, the safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. To ensure the safest environment possible, the following safety protocols are new this school year:

● All WHS visitors must present identification and explain the purpose of their visit before being allowed entry into the building. Visitors will need to have their driver’s license scanned through our system and will receive an ID badge upon admission. ID badges must be returned to the main office upon exiting.

● If you know in advance that you will be picking up your student during school hours, please email the attendance secretary and your child’s assistant principal, or send a note with the student indicating the pick-up time, reason for dismissal, and valid contact information. Students will not be released to anyone without a valid photo ID.

● WHS will not allow outside food delivery services such as DoorDash or GrubHub. Students who forget their lunch may purchase a school lunch. If there is a hardship, students must communicate this to their assistant principal for assistance.

● Students are not allowed to remain in the building after school hours unless they are approved to take part in sports, activities, after-school detention, or receiving additional support.

Attendance

● Student attendance is critical to their overall success in school. Poor attendance negatively impacts a student’s performance and may disqualify them from participating in co-curricular activities and other events.

● According to district policy, students who exceed 18 unexcused absences may need to repeat the year or will be in non-credit status, or file an appeal to receive credit.

● As per N.J.S.A 18A: 28-27, a student aged six to sixteen will be considered truant if they have ten or more unexcused absences.

● The school building opens every day at 7:00 am. All students must be in homeroom by 7:25 a.m. Students are considered late to school if they arrive after 7:25. All morning entry will occur in the back of the building at doors 5 and doors 6. Door 6 will be closed at 7:28 and Door 5 will remain open until 8:21. After 1st period students can enter the building by using the front door.

Tardiness Regulation Update! - Arriving late to school significantly affects attendance. For every six unexcused tardies, students will be barred from clubs and activities until they serve a Saturday detention. Students that are late because of the bus will be excused. We will have our first Saturday School Session this week, October 5.
